The Spirit XE700 is first and foremost a residential unit designated light commercial it can be used commercially and still fall under a a decent warranty, most home use exercise equipment has no warranty if used commercially.
With 40 levels XE700 offers unheard of versatility and the ability to provide even the most athletic with a hard work out.
With 1000 watts of mass resistance the xe700 breaks the mold as far as providing enough resistance to keep all users happy.
The XE700 replaced the XE850 in the 2008 model year but carries over most of the XE850′s original design as well as it major flaws. The greatest of which is price.

The big unsung hero of this machine is aluminum sheathing on the rail covers.
This feature prevents the ever so common cracked plastic rail covers.
This one feature does help the machine seem a little for commercial even though it shares its basic design with the rest of the XE line which is considered just as residential use as every other home use machine on the market.
Extremely Smooth, But Lacks Comfort
As with many of the XE machines, the XE 700 has a 30 pound fly wheel which helps to deliver and incredibly smooth motion that does not jerk even if the user has a tendency to do so themselves.
The function delivers a truly enjoyable workout which compares will to that of most any elliptical on the market.
The 40 levels of resistance also allow for a very wide range of users, from the very out of shape looking for a first step towards improved fitness, to those in the best of shape searching for that one machine that can make them even better.
The maximum wattage of 1000 watts provides enough resistance to provide a truly quality workout for most anyone interested in using this machine.
The major downside to the XE700 is that despite its features it is lacking the number and types of features which would usually justify its price tag.
The upgraded rail covers explain a small fraction of its cost, but at about $2100 after discount there is a lot more this machine would have to have to be considered a value.
Secondly as keeping with the commercial line of thought Spirit took out the cushioning on the pedals and down graded them from adjustables to fixed to help improve durability.
But with this downgrade Spirit took away some of this machine’s best attributes.
The cost of the XE700 comes from this machine being warrantied as a light commercial unit, which is great for gym owners but just drives up the cost for residential users who would otherwise receive the machine at a lower cost with the same residential warranty.
A Good Machine With A Poor PriceTag
If the Spirit XE700 was an $800-$1200 machine it might be considered a good machine, unfortunately at its cost and knowing that Spirit offers better features on lower models in this series sours my perception of this machine.
