Also, alcohol is full of calories that don’t benefit your body. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, alcohol can also hinder your body’s ability to absorb nutrients, and can leave you dehydrated.

If you wish to drink alcohol at a special event, forget about sugary mixed drinks and wine coolers. Opt instead for a diet-friendly white wine spritzer, a lite beer, or a shot of rum in a Diet Coke. Tip 1: Control blood sugar spikes and crashes.

When we stuff ourselves with highly refined carbohydrates, which most junk food tends to be, our blood sugar rapidly climbs. Then, because our bodies process these carbs so quickly, we experience a blood sugar crash.

Low blood sugar increases hunger, urging us to go out and do it all over again.

To avoid this cycle, eat small but frequent meals throughout the day. Never skip meals; recent studies have shown that dieters are more likely to binge on junk food if they haven’t eaten in several hours.

To really knock out cravings, combine a healthy fat with some protein and complex carbohydrates, like a tablespoon of peanut butter on whole grain bread. It will be more nutritious and more satisfying than the junk food your body is asking for.

Tip 2: Avoid artificial sweeteners and MSG.

When we eat sweet-tasting foods, our bodies produce insulin, whether those sweet-tasting foods actually contain sugar or a sugar substitute.

(It should be noted that many Chinese restaurants now offer MSG-free foods.) Other foods, such as grated parmesan cheese and pre-made soups, contain MSG.

It’s almost impossible to cut artificial flavor enhancers out of your diet completely, but you can take steps to reduce the amount you consume.

Eat natural foods you prepare yourself. Don’t consume too many diet sodas. Instead, hydrate with water or decaffeinated tea.

If you crave something sweet, go ahead and have real sugar in moderation. If you give your body a little of what it wants, it’s less likely to demand more at the next meal.

Tip 3: Learn to identify emotional eating triggers.

The Smooth CE 2.1 Elliptical is the downgraded version of the CE 3.2, you take out some features and you get the later. Currently it isn’t anymore available through Smooth but you can find it online or as a used product for sale. As long as it is in good shape and the price has gotten a good cut, it is a good choice.

It is an entry level model, has a good value for the quality you get and a reasonable pack of features. It combines a heavy duty flywheel with the electromagnetic braking system to deliver a smooth and quiet motion as you exercise. One amazing thing is that when you stop the machine the flywheel will gradually stop.

Good entry level elliptical, unfortunately discontinued

The Smooth CE 2.1 Elliptical has pivotal foot pedals, if you like elliptical then you sure like the fact that they have a low impact exercise, the pivotal foot pedals allow you to decrease even more the impact on your joints by allowing your feet to always be aligned with the pedals.

It is a bit heavy with 175 pounds, but that is also why it is so stable and solid, it does not move around when you exercise, even when you speed up. It comes with an LCD display, not the best but does its job. You will also have 9 programs to choose from, including heart rate control programs, endurance and interval training.

This elliptical also has the innovative idea from Smooth to place the built in heart rate monitors in the moveable arms, meaning that you do not have to take your hands from them to get any heart rate values as you exercise. If you don’t like to wear heart rate wireless straps this is also a plus for you.

Overall it is a good elliptical for an entry level machine; too bad it has been discontinued by Smooth. It can still be found for sale, but the new models have outrun the Smooth CE 2.1 Elliptical and it is best to go with the new models if the price and quality of the Smooth CE 2.1 Elliptical that you find isn’t that good

Not a good choice

The Proform iSeries 785 F Elliptical has some attractive features, the Power Intensity Ramp combined with the Personal Trainer Workouts and the Weight Loss Workouts can give you enough challenges to keep you busy and motivated for a long time. It is also effective and can deliver results with time and daily usage.

But this is where the good parts end. If you go over most of the reviews that customers leave about this elliptical in the internet you will find that with time it becomes very noisy, some parts break off easily and the elliptical becomes unstable as you ride on it. The CE 3.2 was itself an improvement from another model, the CE 2.1. It includes a wireless heart rate control, a large LED screen and tried to improve on the quality of the elliptical reaching for commercial grade quality.

It has a nice, quiet and smooth operation. There some bad points, for a home elliptical, it has a big footprint and the flywheel’s only 20 pounds. The Proform 20.0 CrossTrainer is filled with good features, sold at an affordable price and with some surprises. The surprise is the personal trainer program and two video games. The personal trainer program is nice to have; it actually talks back to you as you exercise to keep you within the programs metrics. The video games, it’s more of a personal thing, either you like it or hate it.

But, why not to play good games with a games console and leave the elliptical for serious workout time?

One thing that is good is the Interactive Audio CrossTrainer, it is like having a personal trainer to guide you through your workout sessions and keep in track with your stats for better results. At first it is good and works out fine, but it can also be annoying after a few weeks. If you like to drive with your GPS on, then we guess you will also like this feature.

Everything else is standard for the price range, and has good quality. If this elliptical trainer was to be stripped off the two previously mentioned features it would just like another great Proform elliptical. Great entry level elliptical trainer

The ProForm 10.0 ZE Elliptical is a good choice if you are not expecting too much from it. If you are looking for an elliptical with which you can work out seriously, you’d better look somewhere else, this elliptical is great if you like power walking or light jogging, above that you may test the limits of the machine.

Other than that everything else put this elliptical on the top of its price range. It has a space saver design that allows it to be folded, it is compatible with iFit technology, the large LCD display has all the info that you need to keep your stats controlled.

You can’t find much information yet about this elliptical, it is a brand new model for 2010, but the hype is out there, specially about its adjustable stride with 3 lengths to choose from: 13”, 15”, and 18”. And also the 12 levels of resistance than combined with the resistance greatly increase the benefits of you time working out with this elliptical.

Plus all the nice things that you will love, like the fact that it can be folded to be stored away after you have used it, the music port for iPod’s with the sound system Intermix Acoustics. It is perfect for home usage.

One of the things that is amazing about the Reebok RL 900 Elliptical is the incline ramp, this feature will allow you to increase the difficulty of your exercise while increasing the amount of calories that you burn with the added effort. You can go from 10% to 30% incline, it will feel like climbing a mountain.

It is a solid elliptical, weighs 270 pounds, which isn’t too much for an elliptical, making it steady and sturdy to hold user with 350 pounds. At least that is what Reebok says, but if you are over the 300 pounds mark you will see that the RL 900 starts to feel your weight and shake. Even so, it is much better than most elliptical within this price range.

Is has 12 programs, a large monitor, built in fans, easy access quick incline and resistance controls, built-in iFIT technology and heart rate pulse grip handles. Though some customers have thought otherwise.

“The machine is very sturdy and smooth. It took about 3 hours to put together.It was missing 4 washers when putting together. The description isn’t accurate. It says there is a “coolair fan” but there is not. Proform resolved it by crediting me and assuring they would change the description. Also it states there is an “IPod dock”, which there is not. There is only a USB and stereo jack. It looks like they took their description form the Nordic Track site.”

Only suggestion here would be to read the review and inspect the product well enough before taking a delivery. But, overall, it is ideal for users with small, medium and long heights (up to 22 inches) and quite easy on the space consumption and your budget. Proform’s good warranty is an added advantage.
