Reebok RL 1500 Elliptical Review

Another warmed up left over from Icon fitness, the Reebok RL 1500 elliptical is essentially the same machine as the Nordic Track Elite 1300 with a couple of pluses.

I could essentially give the same review for this machine as I did the Nordic Track, but for the sake of anyone interested in this machine I will not.
Built on a solid principle, the Reebok RL 1500 uses a rare earth magnetic field for resistance. Not a bad resistance system but with only 12 levels it does not meet the needs of all users.

Reebok RL1500 Elliptical Specifications

  • Stride Legnth: 20″
  • Type of Resistance: Magnetic
  • Resistance Levels: 12
  • Dimensions: 78″ x 27″ x 72″
  • Product Weight: 220 lbs
  • Max User Weight: 300 lbs
  • Display: Matrix with message boxes
  • Programs: 15
  • Warranty: lifetime Frame, 1 year parts, and labor

With a lifetime frame warranty and the Ifit system included on this machine it scores some major points and gets off easy for some of the quality problems which continue all the way up the Icon line because of materials used.
As always the ifit system is a good way to add targeted trainer created workouts to your machine. You can purpose the specific trainings you need and expand your machine’s range of programs by 25 programs per card for $30 per card, not a terrible deal.

Short Lived Happiness

A lot of reviewers have good things to say about the features of this machine and how it is a recommended machine, this however only makes sense if you do not use a new machine for a few hours.

The major problem with a lot of Icon Fitness made machines is that even the most expensive models tend to wear out prematurely, giving way to squeaks and groans and moans. The initial smoothness wears out and the machines can become jerky as they age.

This is something you pick up when talking to customers who have owned these machines for a long time or when you hop on a used machine. The new machines feel smooth, mostly because they are new, and seldom have any sound at all.

I advise anyone interested in this machine to talk to someone you know who has owned it previously for a number of years if you can use their old machine.

The RL1500 is fairly feature rich, with cooling fans and the ifit system, but it can’t be over looked that the other machines in the $1500 price range have the same features, better displays, MP3 connectivity, speakers, and quite a bit more durability.

Boo To Many Reviewers

The RL1500 gets a lot of good marks from reviewers, mostly because it is quite a bit better than the other machines in the Reebok line and they are surprized.

What they fail to do however is consider how long this $1500 machine will function for you as well as it does its first day. It may be little over a couple months, or maybe a year, but once a year is up the problem is all

My honest advice is to look at the Sole or Smooth Fitness lines, like the E35, E25, or E95.
